Anna Gibson
Anna Gibson, is a Barbadian contemporary artist who primarily uses acrylic and mixed media to explore body manipulation through realism and expressionism. Her work focuses on the vulnerabilities women face regarding their physical differences and the lengths they go to in order to mask or alter their bodies for acceptance within cultural, racial, and social contexts. Influenced by both personal experiences and popular culture, Gibson’s art delves into the mental and physical processes of metamorphosis that women undergo. Her recent works emphasize the evaluation and comparison of physical images, using a dynamic mix of harsh and soft techniques to highlight the obsessive pursuit of societal and internal acceptance.
