Olamilekan Okunade

Olamilekan Okunade is a Nigerian artist whose work centres on the strength, resilience, and presence of women. Based in Lagos, his practice developed from an early interest in colour, shape, and form, later refined through formal training in painting. Working primarily with acrylic, he creates figurative compositions influenced by interlocking patterns inspired by brick structures, using them to build layered surfaces that reflect connection and endurance. His focus on women stems from personal experience, particularly the influence of his mother, whose strength continues to shape his perspective. Through his work, Okunade explores themes of identity, care, and well-being, while raising awareness around issues affecting African women and their lived realities.
