Hertz Nazaire

Hertz Nazaire, was a Haitian artist known for using his art to raise awareness about sickle cell disease (SCD). Born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, on 2 October 1973, Nazaire battled SCD throughout his life, which gradually led to his loss of vision. This struggle deepened his connection to painting, giving his work a greater sense of purpose. His Sickle Cell Series remains a powerful feature in medical books and media, highlighting the pain of chronic illness. Beyond art, Nazaire advocated for the Haitian community, promoting its culture online and raising awareness about SCD until his passing on 29 October 2021, at age 48.
