Stacey Gillian Abe: Garden of Blue Whispers

Inspired by memories of Uganda’s dry seasons and the arrival of rain, Abe’s paintings draw on sensory shifts rooted in place and inheritance. Embroidery runs throughout the works as a symbol of femininity, lineage, and continuity, hand-stitched directly onto canvas as a meditative act passed down through generations.

Indigo anchors the exhibition, reclaimed as a colour of renewal and belonging. At its heart, Garden of Blue Whispers is also a quiet tribute to the artist’s late grandmother, holding memory, love, and loss within imagined landscapes where figures can exist freely and without constraint.
